Blog Party Post: Meet Kelly at Quest for Real Food

Ultimate Blog Party 2010

Welcome!

At the beginning of 2010, I decided to seize the potential of a new year by changing the way my family eats, and I am chronicling this change here at the Quest for Real Food.

These changes will incorporate local foods and foods that are sustainable for our personal health as well as that of the environment.

These changes will also have to fit into another goal of mine: to spend less than $100 a week on our groceries. To some that may seem to be a lot of money, but for me that is a manageable goal. We have been spending upwards of that amount, and I want to bring it down to a lower number while remaining committed to eating real foods.

I will soon be joined by my friend, Megan, who is on a similar path. She has the most incredible skills with saving money and sticking to a budget!

I started my first series called Why Local? Wednesday and am working on another series of Tips and Tricks.

I am also working on getting some interviews and guest posts and maybe (possibly?) a few giveways!

A bit more about me personally...

I grew up in the mountains of Northern California and on the beaches of South Carolina. I lived for a year in France, fulfilling a childhood dream. I graduated from college five years later (only four years in school!) with a degree in Cross-Cultural Studies. My husband and I were married four years ago and we now have a beautiful seven-month-old baby girl named Adeline. We are lucky enough to call Louisville, KY home for the time being.

I currently work for a biotech company in the field of cancer research (see, I'm using my degree...!) and also run a small hobby/business called Irene Design.

In my "free" time, I love to spend time with my family and friends (does that really need to be said? Of course I enjoy that!), read (check out my current reading list), sew (Irene Design), blog, cook, and I am slowly learning photography and blog design (not so much on this blog yet, mainly on the ID blog. We are talking newly-learned as in I-just-learned-this-week new).

Now it's your turn! Whether you came across this post from the Blog Party or by some other means, I would love to know about you! Please leave a comment or two below.
  • How did you find me?
  • Do you have a blog? Feel free to link to yours in the comments and leave a little description if you would like!
  • What are the first few words that come to your mind when you think of food?
Finally, for your enjoyment, I'm linking back to a picture tutorial of how to make your own chocolate covered pretzels! Enjoy!

Hello! I hopped on over to your blog from #UBP10!

I do have a blog, its located at http://lifebycassie.blogspot.com

When I think of food, I think: necessary evil. I'm trying to loose weight and re-learning how to eat properly. I am hopeful that I will change my opinon of food to be inviting and interesting. *Someday*

hey I just came over from the Blog party. Love you blog, can't wait to take time to check it out even more.

My blog is about saving money on many things including groceries. I too try to keep trans fats, hydrogenated oil and other things out of our diets. It's hard with all the great sales, but I do the best I can. Looking forward to spending more time on your blog.

Hi! I'm visiting from UBP! My family has just recently started buying our food locally whenever possible. I'm interesting in learning what you have to say about it. I'm especially interested in how you are able to eat real foods at less than $100 a week! I would love it if you would check out my blog as well. I'm # 293 (Renee @ Livin Our Dash).

Just stopped by from the UBP. I love the concept of your blog; I totally need to do that. I mean, I make an effort off and on but I always keep slipping back and letting artificial crap sneak back in. I also need to get my food budget way, way down. $100 is a lot less than I spend per week; I won't say how much less, but I need to be doing something differently. My blog is called Eat. Drink. Read. Blog. if that gives you any idea how I feel about food.

Dropping in from the UBP to say HI! :)

Cross-cultural studies sounds a lot like International Studies, which is what I majored in. I'm using my degree too, by working in Accounting, lol.

Stopping by from the party, :)

Hi, I'm Annie from http://chicagoscookbook.blogspot.com/ and http://chi-annie.blogspot.com/. I'm stopping by from UBP.
When I think of food, I am grateful for all the varieties available and the deals I can - and I love cooking/baking/eating so much that I have devoted a blog to all my recipes. My goal is to develope a large base of recipes - using primarily real food with some shortcuts to save time and money.

Thanks for stopping by, it's never too late to join the party! I'm so impressed with your blog and the mission you have for your family... when I think of food, I get a little down. A combination of wanting to lose a little weight and never being inspired to cook anything new. I'll have to take a look around here to change that, though!
