A few thoughts from Jamie Oliver

SO I know I'm a little behind the times on this, but I just found out about Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. I have only seen the first episode, so I'm going to hold off on my full opinion for the time being. I do have one quote I want to share with you though. At the end of the first episode, there is this emotional scene where Jamie has a moment of vulnerability and as he is talking he says:

We're all confused about how brilliant we are, how technically advanced we are, and that is fighting with what once made our countries great, that is family and community, being together and something as honestly as simple as putting a few ingredients together and sitting the family [...] around that table and breaking bread.

He is so right. For so long so many of us have bought into the lie that making a meal has to be complicated, that it is something you need the help of a personal chef for. If you can't afford a chef, you can most likely afford fast food, or a pre-cooked, frozen dinner. Please bear with me (remember, I buy frozen pizza too!) and know that I'm not saying do not ever do this.

What I am saying is that we need to remember that meals can be simple. You can cook a meal. You can bring a few ingredients together to nourish yourself, your family and your friends. Your family and friends will appreciate the effort--whether great or small--of your hands to provide this for them. It need only be a the combination of "a few ingredients and sitting the family around the table."

What is it that keeps you from this or encourages you in your efforts?

I am hooked on this show! It is so good. I loved the one where he was in the elementary school and all the old lunch ladies were giving him the hardest time! They wanted to hold on to Pizza for BREAKFAST!
