One of my goals for this year is to cut my grocery bill to $100 each week. Given the fluctuating state of groceries in our house, I figure that if each month my average is $100/week, I'm on target. The problem is I am really bad keeping track of what I spend.
I stash my receipts in three separate places to remember only one of those "special spots" at the end of the month, I spend cash and use my bank card, so going to my bank register isn't that accurate, and I am in no way organized or disciplined enough to actually sit down and record my spending as soon as I get home from the store although it's a great idea!.
The thing is, I need to know how much I have spent in order to know whether or not I am meeting my goal and what I can do to change things because realistically, I know I am not meeting my goal.
I decided to keep one of the zipper pouches that I still have not listed! for my Etsy shop to use to store my receipts.
It's pretty and functional, and just the right size for receipts. I can also find it quickly, and when I go to stash my receipts next week, I can remember where I put the others because they are all right there in the little pouch. It's not fancy and require nothing more than shoving the receipt inside for reference at the end of the month. I am an incredibly low-maintenance organizer!
So, How am I doing for April?
Two weeks ago, I spent close to $130. This week I have spent $66. Looks like I may be headed in the right direction now that I'm actually keeping track. The end of the month will tell though.
How do you keep track of what you spend on groceries?
